I Wish You Hadn't Done That

I wish you hadn't done that
Implied with softly spoken words
That I was special to you-
Claiming me your friend
With a bond of illusions and empty promises,
Taking my hand and my affection so easily.
My body burns with wanting you,
The way I thought you wanted me
A fragile dream carelessly torn and thrown aside.
Can't you see?
I am not angry,
Merely bruised and weary,
Hardly even surprised
That once again I misjudged
And stumbled into the darkness.

I wish the price of trust weren't quite so high
And I wish friendship meant a little more
But most of all
I wish you hadn't done that.
