I SHOULD’VE KNOWN

My world fell from beneath my feet
And all around me there is deceit
I guess since I failed I deserve this
I’m losing my friends and my illusions of bliss
I thought these friends were the roots to my oak
To keep me grounded, to protect like a cloak
Instead I am drifting on a sea of disgust
Surrounded by monologues about money and lust
Never once did a request for advice fall from my lips
Yet I find myself scathed by judgmental quips
Was I so stupid, so blind I can’t see?
A time warp to make me two maybe three
Certainly I have lost respect in their eyes
Maybe I am too reluctant to hand out good byes
Once again I have been betrayed
When I looked that direction I didn’t see the blade.
